Gene Meyer was named LMH President & Chief Executive Officer in May 1997. Through his leadership, LMH has expanded services to a freestanding outpatient facility - LMH South - and added acute rehabilitation, a wound healing center, oncology and expanded cardiology services.
Meyer came to Lawrence from the Saint Luke's-Shawnee Mission Health System in Kansas City, where he had served as Senior Executive Officer for Saint Luke's South, Senior Executive Officer for Saint Luke's-Shawnee Mission Medical Group and Senior Associate Director for Saint Luke's Hospital. He began his health care career at Spelman Memorial Hospital in Kansas City as Director of Personnel in 1980. Meyer became Chief Executive Officer of Spelman Health System in Smithville in 1984 and served there for 12 years.
Meyer is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and past president of the Lawrence Noon Rotary Club and past chairman of the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce board. He serves on the Boards of Directors of US Bank, the Kansas Hospital Association and the Kansas Award for Excellence Foundation.
