Karen Shumate, R.N., M.S M, C.P.H.Q., is LMH's Vice President of Clinical Services. She is responsible for Medical Staff Services and legal affairs. She also has administrative responsibility over Performance Improvement, Risk Management, Infection Control, Accreditation and Regulatory Affairs, Health Information Management Services, Social Services/Case Management, Pharmacy, Radiology, Laboratory, Respiratory Therapy, and Kreider Rehabilitation Services departments. Shumate received her nursing degree from Newman Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Emporia, Kansas, her bachelor's degree in health administration from Ottawa University-Kansas City and her master's degree in management from Baker University. Her prior experience includes work as Director of Quality/Risk Management/Corporate Compliance at Newman Regional Health in Emporia, Kansas. She is a member and past president of the Kansas Association of Risk and Quality Management and is currently the President of the Board of Directors of the Douglas County Dental Clinic. She is also a member of Altrusa International.
