Physician Shadowing

 This opportunity is for college students to be paired with one of our participating physicians in a one-on-one mentoring setting.  Time available is based on physician availability.  Length of placement will also be based on physician availability.  Those interested in shadowing a physician will need to come by the Volunteer Services office to complete an application and other paperwork. 

Requirements:  college junior or senior academic standing and a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher.

LMH Gift Shop

One of the best kept secrets in Lawrence.  Not only is our shop a great place to volunteer but volunteers who help in the shop make it possible for thousands of dollars to be donated each year for new equipment and/or projects at LMH.  If you want to be a part of something fun and worthwhile we invite you to join the volunteer team in the Gift Shop. Computer skills helpful, excellent customer service skills a must.  We have the following shifts available: Saturday shifts from 9 am - 1 pm or 1 pm -5 pm or Sunday from 1- 4 pm.

Emergency Department Waiting Room Host

This is a volunteer opportunity where you can help to make people feel more comfortable. The volunteers in this area will have similar duties as those in surgery waiting, but are more mobile.  This area may require the volunteer to assist people in wheelchairs.  Our shifts available are: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday evenings, Friday late afternoons, Saturdays late afternoon or evening, Sundays anytime.

Nurse Volunteer Program

Are you a nurse without a place to care for patients?  If you have a current RN or LPN license in the state of Kansas and have a few hours to give a week, we have many opportunities for you to utilize your skills.  Come and join the Nurse Volunteer program and do the things that made you want to be a nurse in the first place.

Food and Nutrition Volunteer Ambassadors

Volunteer Ambassadors will visit with patients on an assigned nursing unit, helping the paitent select menu choices for lunch,dinner and breakfast the next day.   We are looking for volunteers with excellent written and verbal communication skills and have the ability to use a cell phone.  Training will be provided.  We have shifts open on Monday,  Friday, Saturday or Sunday from 9 am to 11 am.
