Dr. Ekram grew up in Manhattan, Kansas. She completed her undergraduate education at Kansas State University and her medical school training at the University of Kansas School of Medicine. After her internship and residency training at the University of Oklahoma at Tulsa she completed a fellowship in hematology/oncology at Wake Forest University/Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She is married to Eston James Schwartz, M.D.
