Massage Therapy

living with cancer report that weekly massage improves their quality of
life. They have more energy, are better able to perform daily activities

What
to Expect
After your oncologist has approved you for massage, the sessions will
take place in your treatment room in the Oncology Center. Massage is performed
with you sitting comfortably in your recliner. No disrobing is necessary.
The lighting in your room can be reduced and soft, relaxing music can
be played. Massage sessions last 15 or 30 minutes.
You will decide with your
doctor and massage therapist what is an appropriate time for you.
Gentle massage can be done
to the feet, lower legs, hands and occasionally the head, neck or upper
back. When no pressure can be tolerated, Subtle Energy Techniques can
be used with many of the same benefits as massage. Massaging directly
over a tumor site is not recommended. Deep tissue massage is not indicated
for individuals with cancer.
