Lab Services

Specimen Collection

Specimen collection is the first step in the lab testing process. The laboratory performs specimen collection by venipuncture, capillary puncture, swab or aspirate. Urine may also be collected for urinalysis, culture or drug testing. Other specimen types, such as sputum, may be collected by the patient or other health care providers.

Blood Bank

The Blood Bank performs the testing necessary to safely provide red blood cells, fresh frozen plasma and platelets for patients requiring a transfusion.

Chemistry Lab Services

Chemistry lab staff perform quantitative and qualitative testing on body fluids such as blood, urine, spinal fluid and stool. This testing is used by the physician in the monitoring, diagnosis and treatment of diseases, including monitoring for heart, kidney or thyroid disease, diabetes, prostate cancer, and fertility problems.

Cytology Lab Services

Cytology is the microscopic study of the cells that make up the different tissues and organs of the body. The primary purpose of cytology is to detect abnormal cells that are found in cancer and other benign disease processes. The most common test in cytology is the pap smear, a screening test that helps detect cervical cancer in women.

Histology Lab Services

Histology is the part of pathology which deals with the minute structure, composition and function of tissues sectioned as a thin slice, which is seen using a microscope. With the right technique, histology makes tissue speak. The cells and tissue will reveal bacterial organisms, inflammation, malignancies as well as improvement and normality.

Microbiology Lab Services

Microbiology is the study of micro-organisms. It analyzes specimens for clinically significant bacteria, fungus and parasites. Sensitivity testing is done to identify the best antibiotic for treating infections.

Surgical Pathology Lab Services

Surgical Pathology is the study of the tissues and organs that make up the human body. It combines outward appearance and the microscopic examination at the cellular level to diagnose the wide variety of abnormalities that can affect the body, including infections, benign growths and cancer.
