What to Expect During an Ultrasound

You will be asked to remove clothing that covers the area to be scanned. A sheet or towel will be used to cover you. Warm ultrasound gel will be applied to the area and the technologist will press on you with the transducer, aka probe. Most exams require a prep, either fasting for 6-8 hours or drinking water to fill the urinary bladder. These preps enable the technologist to obtain optimal images for diagnosis.
