Breast Health at LMH Health Women's Center

3D Mammograms, Breast Health Education and More

Starting at age 40, women should have a screening mammogram every year. With the latest 3D mammogram technology available at the LMH Health Women's Center, you have access to the advanced breast cancer detection tools you need, close to home or work.

Designed with women in mind, our Women's Center provides a soothing environment that makes your annual mammogram as convenient and comfortable as possible. As your partner for lifelong health, we are proud to support you with the latest 3D technology in the fight against breast cancer.

Early Detection: Your Most Powerful Defense

One in eight women will develop the disease at some point in her life, but when breast cancer is detected early enough, the five-year survival rate is nearly 100 percent. Family history may put some women at higher risk, but 85 percent of breast cancers occur in women with no family history of the disease. Dr. Jennifer Hawasli, Dr. Jodie Barr and Dr. Sharon Soule discuss Breast Cancer Prevention and Treatment.

The best way to protect your breast health is through annual mammograms. Using 3D mammography, we are dedicated to delivering the best in breast cancer screening.

Want to self-schedule your mammogram? Visit the Patient Portal today to schedule your mammogram. Are you a new patient with LMH Health? Give the Women's Center a call at 785-505-3300 today and they will be able to answer your questions and help you set up your appointment.

The Benefits of 3D Mammograms

3D mammography enables doctors to examine breast tissue layer by layer, revealing the finest of details with greater clarity. Compared to conventional 2D mammograms, research shows 3D mammography:

  • Detects breast cancers earlier and with greater accuracy1-7
  • Finds 20-65% more invasive breast cancers8
  • Reduces unnecessary callbacks by up to 40%2,5

Accredited by the American College of Radiology, we are committed to the early detection of breast cancer, and we adhere to guidelines outlined by the American College of Radiology and the American Cancer Society.

Comprehensive Breast Cancer Care

In addition to breast cancer screening, our physicians and staff are dedicated to excellence in breast cancer care coordination. Our onsite breast surgeon provides same-day diagnostic results whenever possible, and when breast cancer is detected, our physicians combine advanced breast-imaging technology, 3D mammography, ultrasound and biopsy to create customized treatment plans for highly personalized care. JAMA 311.24 (2014): 2499-2507; a multi-site (13), non-randomized, historical control study of 454,000 screening mammograms investigating the initial impact the introduction of the Hologic Selenia Dimensions on screening outcomes. Individual results may vary. The study found an average 41% increase and that 1.2 (95% CI: 0.8-1.6) additional invasive breast cancers per 1000 screening exams were found in women receiving combined 2D FFDM and 3D(TM) mammograms acquired with the Hologic 3D Mammography(TM) System versus women receiving 2D FFDM mammograms only.
