Thank you to our blood donors

What an amazing turnout we had at our blood drives on January 6th and 7th! Those two days produced a total of 153 pints, 57 at the LMH Health West Campus and 96 at the Main Campus. This is a record for the LMH Health blood drives and I am amazed and so grateful, especially with the COVID-19 surge going on. Thank you to our awesome and dedicated blood donors.

Blood donations are always needed, but especially right now. The stories from across the nation regarding blood shortages are very disturbing. At some facilities, the dangerously low blood supply levels are resulting in medical staff making difficult decisions on who receives blood transfusions and who will need to wait until more blood is readily available. "Winter weather across the country and the recent surge of COVID-19 cases are compounding the already-dire situation facing the blood supply," said Dr. Baia Lasky, medical director for the Red Cross.

There has been a 62% drop in college and high school blood drives since the pandemic began. Student donors accounted for approximately 25% of donors in 2019 but now account for only about 10%.  The blood drives we do at LMH Health are vital to making sure we have adequate blood supplies for our patients.

Thank you for your donations!
