Medicare Resources for Patients

Medicare can be complex and confusing. There are many different types of Medicare insurance options, and it can be hard to know what option is the best fit for your needs. We want to make sure you have the information you need before you enroll.

The 2026 Medicare enrollment period runs from October 15 to December 7, 2025.

What is Medicare?

Medicare is a federal health insurance program for people age 65 and older, and certain younger people who have disabilities.

It’s divided into different parts:

  • Part A (Hospital Insurance) covers inpatient hospital stays, care in a skilled nursing facility, hospice care and some home health care.

  • Part B (Medical Insurance) covers certain doctors’ services, outpatient care, durable medical equipment and preventive services.

  • Part D (Drug Coverage) helps cover the cost of prescription drugs. All plans that include Part D coverage are administered through a private insurance company and are subject to limitations.

What about Part C - Medicare Advantage?

Medicare Advantage or Part C, is a Medicare-approved plan offered through a private company. These plans may include Part D and additional benefits, such as vision or dental.

What plans does LMH Health accept?

LMH Health accepts traditional Medicare plans or plans with supplemental coverage. We also accept the following Medicare Advantage plans:

  • Blue Cross Blue Shield Medicare Advantage

  • United Health Care Medicare Advantage

  • AllWell Medicare Advantage

LMH Health does not accept Aetna and Humana Medicare Advantage plans, effective January 1, 2025. You can find a full list of insurance plans we accept here. If you don’t see a company listed, please contact us.

What if I’ve got a Medicare Advantage plan that you don’t accept? Can I switch to Medicare and Medicare Gap without being charged more?

There aren’t any additional charges for switching to Medicare. It’s important to know that there is a risk of denial when it comes to the Medigap plans, as they require medical underwriting.

Is there a penalty for rejoining regular Medicare after being on a Medicare Advantage plan for years?

There is no penalty payment.

When can I join, switch or drop a Medicare or Medicare Advantage plan?

You can only join, switch or drop during specific enrollment periods.

Open Enrollment Period: Between October 15 and December 7 each year, anyone with Medicare can join, switch or drop a Medicare Advantage plan. Your coverage will begin on January 1, as long as the plan receives your request by December 7.

If you join a Medicare Advantage plan during your Initial Enrollment Period, you can change to another Medicare Advantage plan (with or without drug coverage) or go back to Original Medicare (with or without a separate Medicare drug plan) within the first three months you have Medicare.
