“My advice to patients is to think through the problem before you see your doctor so you have specific things to share,” he said. “The more clues you have for us, the easier it’s going to be for us to solve the puzzle.”

Dr. Neal Lintecum is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with special interests in hand surgery. He enjoys hand surgery because it has the widest variety of problems and being a hand surgeon allows him to care for patients of all ages.

After graduating from the University of Kansas School of Medicine, Dr. Lintecum completed fellowship training in hand and upper extremity surgery at the University of California San Francisco General Hospital in San Francisco and Lindenhofspital/Inselspital in Bern Switzerland. He has a Certificate of Added Qualification (CAQ) in Surgery of the Hand, the highest qualification available.

Why should patients choose OrthoKansas?

“People should come to OrthoKansas because we have an excellent team, top to bottom. It starts with the people that greet you at the front desk right through every person that you interact with here,” he said. “People come here because they have a problem and everyone is compassionate and understanding. I hope we continue to meet that standard.”

Philosophy Of Care

In a literal sense, it’s conservative – I think most people don’t come in wanting surgery so if we can solve your problem without surgery, we’ll try that first. I’m also collaborative. I want the patient to feel that they have input on and the final say on what we’re doing for their problem.

At OrthoKansas, you are supported by a team of highly trained experts throughout your treatment and recovery. Learn more about Dr. Lintecum's team. (pdf)

I didn't feel he was interested in me and was abrupt at times without explanation. He didn't really explain clearly what should come next to my problem. He told me what I could do next but did not explain further. He left me with no appointment for checking further to see if my problem would continue to improve.

I particularly liked how Dr. L was not at a computer typing while he was talking to me about my problem. I've gotten used to not having a lot of eye contact when you visit a doctor because they have to type and talk. But in this case because he had someone in the room to do the computer work Dr L made me feel like he was really listening and I feel that it really enhanced our communication and that helped me feel better cared for.

Dr Lintecum was excellent in listening, examining, and explaining findings and recommendations. If all MDs acted in such a manner there would be no complaints ever.

On a personal level, this visit was much better then my first two visits with this Dr. In my first two visits I felt like he didn't really listen to me and was demeaning. I attended this 3rd appointment open minded and ready to go to another Dr for care if it ended in my feeling the same way. I should say also that he is a very knowledgeable Dr. Saying that he was much more compassionate and I felt he did listen to me during this 3rd visit. It really seemed like a completely different (night and day) experience. So I decided to stick with him as my Dr for surgery.
