Health Care Quality FAQs

What is health care quality?

According to the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, health care quality is doing the right thing, at the right time, for the right person, and getting the best possible result. Health care quality reduces your risk of complications during your treatment and improves the care you receive while in the hospital.

How is health care quality measured?

Health care quality is measured in many ways. At LMH Health, we examine the outcomes achieved, such as infections, falls, mortality and readmissions to the hospital, and we evaluate how well we provide care in compliance with national evidence-based guidelines (processes). In addition, we measure more than 10 factors that contribute to a patient’s hospital experience. At LMH Health, we compare our data to national and state quality measures to make sure you are getting the best possible care.

How do I know if my doctor is qualified to treat my condition or to perform my procedure?

All doctors who practice at LMH Health are board certified or board eligible. Board certification demonstrates a physician’s exceptional expertise in a particular specialty and/or subspecialty of medical practice. LMH Health closely scrutinizes each physician’s medical credentials to assure that they have the training, education, licensure and current experience necessary to receive hospital privileges. If you have questions about your doctor, please contact LMH Health’s Quality Services Department at 785-505-3156.

How can I be sure that LMH Health provides quality care?

LMH Health is Medicare certified, licensed by the state of Kansas and accredited by The Joint Commission. Numerous hospital departments and clinics also meet rigorous certification requirements by their respective professional organization (see list below). LMH Health meets rigorous national quality and patient safety standards established by state and national regulatory organizations. The state and Joint Commission regularly review and evaluate our facility and staff to ensure continued compliance of their respective patient safety directives. In addition, there are other organizations that measure LMH Health’s performance in patient satisfaction, overall value and quality of care for specific clinical conditions. Please see our Quality Reports and Patient Safety sections for more details.

All hospitals in the United States submit quality data to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. This center provides a national data repository which is called Hospital Compare. Access this resource and see how the quality of the care provided to patients at LMH Health compares to that of other hospitals and state and national averages.

Who oversees LMH Health quality and patient safety programs?
