Falls are a leading cause of injury, and one of the #1 reasons that Lawrence residents visit the emergency department each year. But many of these falls are preventable. Join LMH Health Therapy Services for this supportive, engaging and challenging class designed to help you:
- Improve balance and coordination
- Build strength and flexibility
- Gain confidence in daily activities
- Reduce your risk for falls
Upright U! is a group exercise program led by a physical therapist and/or physical therapy assistant focusing on movement with simple and effective strength and balance activities. We provide educational sessions, tips and strategies to help you identify fall risk factors, build confidence and stay safe in the home and the community.
To be part of this class, you should be able to walk independently either with or without the use of an assistive device (e.g. walker, cane). Two levels of classes are offered to best meet your needs:
Balance 101 is for you if:
- You are able to rise from a chair without help
- Your tolerance for standing or walking is limited to household distances
- You can walk independently with or without a device
Balance 201 is for you if:
- You can walk comfortably around the community either with or without an assistive device (e.g. walker, cane).
Classes will be held at the Rock Chalk Park Pavilion at 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays for six-week sessions and cost $85. Scholarships may be available upon request.
