Radiation Therapy

Radiation oncology is a vital part of cancer treatment. At LMH Health, we use radiation therapy to target and treat solid tumors – either to eliminate cancer, or to slow its growth and relieve symptoms when cure is not possible.

What is radiation therapy?

Radiation therapy uses high-energy ionizing beams of light to damage the DNA in cancer cells, preventing them from growing or dividing. Our team uses precise techniques to focus treatment on the tumor while protecting surrounding healthy tissue.

We specialize in:

  • IMRT (Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy) for precise dose delivery
  • IGRT (Image-Guided Radiation Therapy) for real-time imaging during treatment
  • SBRT (Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy) for very high dose radiation ablation treatment

Can radiation help if my cancer can’t be cured?

Yes. We offer palliative radiation therapy to improve quality of life for patients with advanced or incurable cancers. This approach can:

  • Reduce tumor size
  • Relieve pain
  • Ease other cancer-related symptoms

What can I expect?

Your care begins with a personalized plan to treat your cancer. During your first visit, our team will:

  • Discuss your goals and treatment options
  • Explain the benefits, risks and potential side effects
  • Answer your questions and set realistic expectations

Next, you’ll go through a CT simulation, which helps us map the treatment area and design a plan to target the cancer and protect the surrounding healthy tissue. The simulation helps position the patient consistently for daily treatments. To ensure accuracy and safety, gentle immobilization devices may be used to keep the treatment area stable.

What’s a typical treatment schedule?

Radiation therapy isn’t one-size-fits-all. Your schedule will depend on your specific diagnosis and treatment goals. Some patients receive therapy over a few days, while others may need several weeks.

We tailor treatment plans to meet your unique needs.
