Healthy Hearts Fair open to community

Lawrence Vein Center Healthy Heart Fair display

In recognition of National Heart Month, Lawrence Memorial Hospital is sponsoring a Healthy Hearts Fair on Saturday, Feb. 20, from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the hospital, 325 Maine Street.

This free educational event will feature informational displays from many hospital departments and not-for-profit community agencies that promote heart health. Beginning at 8 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. there will be exhibits, prizes, heart healthy refreshments and health screenings, which may include blood pressure, stroke risk, heart attack risk, and height and weight.

Information about heart disease and stroke prevention, diagnosis and treatment as well as nutrition, smoking cessation, exercise, stress management and support services also will be available. No registration is needed to participate in the free health screenings and exhibits.

In addition, a full lipid (cholesterol) blood profile will be available from 7:30 to 10 a.m. for $25 at the door or $20 if registered before Feb. 12. This is a fasting blood test so participants should not eat or drink anything but medications and water for 10-12 hours in advance of having their blood drawn.

Enroll in advance for blood work and the discounted price, (before Feb. 12) , download and send in your forms today or call the health fair specialist at the LMH Lab at 785-505-6179 to request a registration form.

Come and learn more about how to prevent cardiovascular disease, the number one killer of men and women in the United States.
