LMH Health Leadership Academy
The Academy engages high school sophomores, juniors and seniors in experiences that give them a jump start on careers in healthcare administration, medicine and allied health. In partnership with the Lawrence Public Schools (USD 497) and Boys and Girls Club of Lawrence, the Academy will offer healthcare leadership and professional development opportunities. Students who are sophomores, juniors or seniors are encouraged to apply from all Lawrence high schools. Students from demographics traditionally under-represented throughout healthcare are encouraged to apply. The Academy will operate in-person and onsite at LMH Health. All students must be 16 years old or older by June 1, 2022.

Program Information
Purpose
Provide experiences to change beliefs and positively impact lives. The Academy intends to cultivate a diverse group of students in an effort to build a workforce that better represents the communities served in healthcare. The Academy also supports LMH Health’s efforts to create a more diverse workforce.
Selection
- 2022 program dates: June 1 – July 30
- Time Expectation: eight week program, 24 hours/week (paid)
- Attendance: Regular attendance is required and critical to the students’ success of the Academy. Please note: The Academy is an in-person learning environment
- Age: High School Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors (must be 16 years of age by June 1, 2022)

Learning Design & Experience
- The Summer Leadership Academy is an in-person learning environment
- Informative and experiential
- Personal and professional development opportunities
- Paid internships at LMH Health
- One-on-one mentoring by senior leader executives
- Monthly field trips, workshops, and trainings including a final project that will be presented to healthcare executives on the last day of the Academy
Goals
- Build a more representative and culturally responsive healthcare workforce for our community – creating a pipeline for students as they begin to explore career interests
- Provide hands-on experiences that engage students in the health professions
- Expose students to numerous roles within healthcare
- Enhance students’ personal and professional skills
- Offer pathways for students to stay connected to LMH Health or healthcare in general
- Connect Academy alumni back to employment at LMH Health
Objectives
- Increase the potential for economic upward mobility for those students in our community.
- Have a positive impact on health disparities on a local level by increasing the diversity of healthcare professionals in Lawrence and Douglas County
- Create a healthcare workforce that better represents the communities served and develops talent from local communities
