Breastfeeding Support

At LMH Health and the Family Birthing Center, we support breastfeeding as an important first step in your baby’s lifelong health. Breast milk provides ideal nutrition for infant growth and development, and it offers several health benefits for moms as well. We are proud to say our new moms have a breastfeeding rate of 90 percent.

As natural as it may be, breastfeeding is a learned behavior that isn’t always easy at first. New moms and babies often need expert guidance that begins as soon as possible after baby’s birth. Our staff includes International Board Certified Lactation Consultants who work closely with you to create a positive and lasting breastfeeding experience. Additionally, our birthing center nurses receive 25 hours of breastfeeding education (including five hours of hands-on training). Together, we provide a baby-friendly experience – one that nurtures mother-baby bonding, supports breastfeeding and offers high-quality maternity care.

While we support every women’s right to make her own choice about breastfeeding, we remain steadfast in our commitment to ensuring every family understands the true value of breastfeeding. And, because hospitals play an important role in making the experience easier, LMH Health is also pleased to participate in High 5 for Mom & Baby, a program that aims to improve breastfeeding success in Kansas.

Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding

Like the experts at World Health Organization and UNICEF, we encourage new moms to establish and sustain exclusive breastfeeding for baby’s first six months of life, followed by complementary foods with continued breastfeeding up to two years of age or beyond. We uphold the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding to empower you with the right level of support.
