The LMH Health Cancer Center has once again earned accreditation from the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a quality program administered by the American College of Surgeons.

The recognition follows a rigorous review process conducted every three years and confirms that LMH Health meets national standards for breast cancer care, patient support, quality improvement and community outreach.

“This accreditation reflects the exceptional care our teams provide every day and our commitment to delivering high-quality breast care close to home,” said Dr. Shelly Kortkamp, president and CEO of LMH Health. “Most importantly, it demonstrates our focus on partnering with patients throughout every step of their care journey.”

The NAPBC accredits breast centers that provide coordinated, patient-centered care through a multidisciplinary team of specialists. At LMH Health, that team includes breast surgeons, oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, nurses, genetic counselors and other healthcare professionals who work together to create individualized treatment plans.

Patients receiving care through an NAPBC-accredited center benefit from:

  • Comprehensive breast care services, from screening and diagnosis through treatment and survivorship
  • A coordinated team approach that brings specialists together to guide care decisions
  • Access to information about clinical trials, emerging treatments and genetic counseling
  • Support services that address emotional, physical and long-term recovery needs

“We are proud to receive this re-accreditation and what it represents for our patients,” said Dr. Jodie Barr, oncologist at the LMH Health Cancer Center. “It reflects our commitment to evidence-based care and continuous improvement, while ensuring patients have access to the resources and support they need throughout treatment and beyond.”

The accreditation also highlights LMH Health’s focus on early detection and timely treatment.

“Regular screening remains one of our most important tools in the fight against breast cancer,” said Dr. Jennifer Hawasli, breast surgeon with Lawrence Breast Specialists. “Early detection gives us more treatment options and can lead to better outcomes. This accreditation reinforces that patients can receive comprehensive, high-quality breast care right here in our community.”

The NAPBC accreditation is awarded to breast centers that demonstrate excellence in leadership, clinical care, patient services, professional education and quality improvement. LMH Health first earned accreditation in 2022 and has successfully maintained those standards through each subsequent review.
