LMH Health continues national accreditation from the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer

LMH Health announced that it will continue full accreditation under the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Commission on Cancer (CoC) Accreditation Program. This recognition is only granted to institutions committed to providing high-quality cancer care. Each cancer program must undergo a rigorous evaluation and review of its performance and compliance with the CoC standards by undergoing a comprehensive site visit every three years.

“We have recently and successfully completed another accreditation cycle, ensuring that LMH Health continues to comply with dozens of rigorous requirements established by the Commission on Cancer,” said Dr. Chad Tate, surgeon at LMH Health and chairman of the cancer accreditation committee. “These standards demand detailed record regarding our ongoing cancer research and makes certain our care meets or exceeds other prestigious medical centers. Several standards demand constant quality improvement and eliminating barriers to appropriate cancer treatment. CoC accreditation and the new LMH Health Cancer Center significantly expand the mission to provide modern, evidenced-based cancer care to our community while staying close to home.”

The American Cancer Society estimates that more than 70% of cancer patients in the United States are diagnosed and/or treated at a CoC-accredited facility, though these hospitals represent just 25% of all U.S. hospitals. LMH Health joins just nine other hospitals in Kansas with this distinguished accreditation.

As a CoC-accredited institution, LMH Health is also an ACS Surgical Quality Partner. Being a Surgical Quality Partner signifies an institution’s dedication to consistently improving procedures and approaches, while maintaining a critical eye on process at every step. The Surgical Quality Partner designation lets patients know LMH is dedicated to quality and relentless self-improvement and has been accredited by the ACS. Patients can trust that the care they receive at Surgical Quality Partner hospitals adheres to the most rigorous standards in surgical quality.

"ACS Quality programs are grounded in more than a century of experience and participation is an important measure of a hospital’s surgical quality. As an ACS Surgical Quality Partner, LMH Health has shown a commitment to providing the best possible patient care, evaluating that care in a rigorous fashion, and dedicating themselves to continuous self-improvement," said ACS Executive Director & Chief Executive Officer Patricia L. Turner, MD, MBA, FACS.

The CoC is a consortium of professional organizations dedicated to improving survival and quality of life for patients with cancer by setting and raising standards which promote cancer prevention, research, education and monitoring of comprehensive quality care.

“Earning reaccreditation demonstrates a commitment to providing outstanding patient care by clinical and non-clinical experts across our organization, from general, breast and plastic surgeons, pathologists, radiologists and radiology and mammography technicians, medical and radiation oncologists, palliative medicine providers, and nurses to pharmacists, physical therapists, social work, dieticians, health information management and tumor registrars, administration and community education,” said Sheryle D’Amico, LMH Health senior vice president of Strategic Integration. “This accreditation aligns with LMH’s cultural values and strategy for our Cancer Service line. The bottom line is that this is best for our patients.”
