What is a Stroke?

A stroke occurs when blood flow to the brain is interrupted, preventing it from receiving the oxygen and nutrients it needs. Every minute care is delayed causes an increase in damage to your brain.

Know the Signs: BE FAST

Strokes strike suddenly. Recognizing the symptoms early can save a life. BE FAST is an easy way to remember the warning signs.

  • Balance – Sudden loss of balance, unexplained dizziness or unsteadiness
  • Eyes – Sudden vision changes, especially in one eye
  • Face – One side of the face may droop when trying to smile
  • Arms – Weakness in an arm or leg on one side of the body
  • Speech – Trouble speaking or understanding speech
  • Time – Call 911 immediately. Every second lost is time the brain can’t afford.

Stroke Rehabilitation

At the LMH Health Center for Rehabilitation, patients affected by stroke or other debilitating conditions receive coordinated, compassionate care to help them return safely to their daily life.

Our nine-bed, acute rehabilitation unit is staffed by physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech pathologists, social workers and nurses specially trained in rehabilitation.

Physicians work closely with our staff through daily updates and weekly team meetings to guide each patient’s personalized treatment and discharge plan.
