Vein Care
Vein disease occurs when veins lose their ability to move blood efficiently back toward the heart, causing blood to pool in the legs and leading to symptoms ranging from discomfort to visible varicose or spider veins. The Lawrence Vein Center provides focused vein care, including evaluation and personalized treatment options.

Vein Care
At the Lawrence Vein Center, we focus exclusively on vein health, providing personalized care that helps you look and feel your best.
What’s Vein Disease?
Vein disease happens when the veins that carry blood back to your heart aren’t working properly, causing blood to pool in the legs. This can lead to both cosmetic and health concerns. To improve blood flow and reduce symptoms, your doctor may suggest wearing special stockings, exercising more, or offering other treatments.
Risk Factors for Vein Disease
You may be at higher risk for vein disease if you:
- Are obese
- Are pregnant
- Don’t exercise regularly
- Experience hormonal changes
- Have a family history of vein disease
- Have a leg injury
- Smoke
- Stand or sit frequently for long periods
Symptoms of Vein Disease
If you experience any of the following, it’s important to talk to your doctor:
- Pain, swelling, or inflammation in your legs, ankles, feet, or along any vein
- Heavy or tired legs
- Itchy or discolored skin on the legs
Conditions We Treat
Depend on the experts at LMH Health to treat:
- Chronic venous insufficiency
- Deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
- Lipedema (enlargement of both legs)
- Lymphedema
- Spider veins (thin, red, web-like blood vessels on the skin)
- Varicose veins
- Venous skin ulcers
Vein Treatment
We offer nonsurgical and minimally invasive treatments to improve your comfort and appearance. These options have shorter recovery times, less bruising and swelling, and a lower risk of complications.
Insurance
Your insurance plan likely covers vein treatment if your doctor says you need it. Check with your insurance company to see if they also cover cosmetic treatment.
Meet Our Care Team
K. Michael Zabel, MD, FASE
Cardiology
“I don’t think you can go anywhere and get better care from the cardiologists and the nurses and technicians than you can at the LMH Health Heart Center. Most of us have quite a few years of experience, but most of my partners don’t have as much grey hair as I do,” Dr. Michael Zabel says with a smile.
Dr. Zabel earned his medical degree from Washington University School of Medicine, and completed his residency and fellowship training in cardiology at Duke University.
“I enjoy treating heart failure patients, those with ischemic heart disease and valvular heart disease, which we’re seeing more of because it tends to be age-related,” he said. “I want my patients to know not to worry too much about this. We can treat almost everything.”
Dr. Zabel is a Fellow of the American Society of Echocardiography and is board certified in cardiovascular disease.
Kye P. Evans, DO
Wound Healing
Dr. Kye Evans didn’t set out to become an emergency medicine doctor. He fell into it by accident.
“I was working as an undergrad in the ER and they sent me to an Emergency Medical Technician course. I loved the constant change and excitement, and I knew this is where I should be.”
After earning his medical degree from the Kansas City University College of Osteopathic Medicine and completing emergency medicine residency at the Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix, Dr. Evans spent a number of years working in the emergency department. That’s where you can really see an overlap with wound and vein care.
“We see a lot of wounds and injuries in the ED that result in bad outcomes. One of the things we try to do in wound is limb salvage, trying to prevent loss of limb and limb amputations. It made a lot of sense for me to continue in that field and provide comprehensive care for those patients.”
Dr. Evans has worked at the LMH Health Wound Healing and Vein Center since 2011 and serves as the clinic’s medical director. The clinic specializes in caring for diabetic foot wounds, allowing patients to maintain their normal lifestyle.
“The care you receive in our clinic is unique. You have the same nurse with you the entire time throughout your visit. They stay with you through your procedures, follow you through your care, and you really develop a relationship.”
