Leadership Academy Spotlight: Maya Berry
Maya Berry
We're looking back at graduates from the LMH Health Summer Leadership Academy, an eight-week paid mentorship program introduces high school students to careers in healthcare and city government. The program offers opportunities to learn through mentorship and training, and make connections with community leaders. At the end of the program, students receive a scholarship toward their post-secondary education, funded by gifts to the LMH Health Foundation.
Maya Berry participated in the 2022 Leadership Academy. She is a Lawrence High graduate currently pursuing her bachelor’s degree in public health with a minor in political science at Washburn University.
Maya also works as the Administrative Coordinator for Prevention And Resiliency Services in Topeka, which provides early intervention and prevention strategies to empower youth and families to make informed decisions, decrease substance use, and support a safe and healthy community.
Maya’s passion for harm reduction began during her experience with the Academy where she witnessed firsthand the impact of the fentanyl epidemic. She strongly believes in judgment-free support and expanding access to life-saving tools for all.
