Biography

Dr. Adam Goodyear is a native of Kansas who grew up in Auburn, a small town southwest of Topeka. Although he has lived in Texas, Oklahoma and Colorado, he considers Kansas home and came back to care for its wonderful people.

His areas of interest are hip and knee replacement and revision, as well as non-operative management of arthritic hip and knee conditions.

“For the most part, people that have arthritis that need a replacement will typically get great relief with one of these surgeries,” he said. “There have been a lot of knee and hip replacements put in throughout the years and a lot of them that will need to be revised. I like the opportunity to offer that service to patients as well.”

After earning his medical degree at the University of Texas Medical School in Houston, Dr. Goodyear completed a residency at the University of Kansas Hospital in Orthopedic surgery and a fellowship in adult reconstruction at the University of Colorado Hospital and Denver Health.

Why should patients choose OrthoKansas?

“The patient experience is what we like to go back to. We have a good team here, not just the physicians but our physician assistants, physical therapists, medical assistants, nurses - everybody is on board with helping each patient individually,” he said. “We want to give you the broadest orthopedic experience you can have and be able to offer every service orthopedically that there is to offer. We want to be a regional orthopedic center and we do everything we do very well.”

Philosophy Of Care

I don’t want to be a physician that tells you “this is what we’re doing.” I would prefer to give you the options and let you decide what you want to do. I’ll help you make that decision and give you the pros and cons but in the end, it’s shared decision making.

I have been seeing Dr. Goodyear for over four years for orthopedic issues. He has been simply wonderful. I recommend him to everyone I know that needs hip or knee replacements. He is thorough, knowledgeable, and stays up with current practices in his field. Based on my experiences, I believe he is a great surgeon. I trust him completely with my orthopedic needs.

Dr Goodyear is the best doctor I've ever had. He's warm, friendly, and acts as though he enjoys seeing me. I trust his advice and recommend him to anyone facing hip replacement surgery. He's the best!

While Dr. Goodyear is not my primary care physician, he is the one I have gone to three times for my knee pain; I have no cartilage left after jogging for 30+ years. He has given me three sets of shots in both knees and while it is painful at the time, that disappeared after I got home. I am once again pain free and so relieved I didn't have knee replacement. So far.

I trust Dr. Goodyear implicitly. Both of my knees are bone on bone. I need surgery but am overweight. I was in the hospital in December for a blood clot. I wanted to have the surgery done despite my weight. Dr. Goodyear would not agree to do it because of my weight issues. I have to lose about 40 lbs. He told me that even if I got another surgeon to do the surgery the risks would be a lot more, because of my weight and the issue of possible blood clots. Dr. Goodyear is going to work with me, and I am going to try and lose the weight. He recommended using my walker instead of a cane because of the fall risk, I had fallen earlier in the week. I respect Dr. Goodyear for his stance on waiting for my weight loss for surgery because of the higher risk of complications, even though I had pressed for earlier surgery. I feel he definitely looks out for the health and safety concerns for his patients.
